Alastair joined the MLC team in April 2018. He brought with him over 20 years’ experience in sales, marketing, account management and operations management from predominantly the petroleum industry within Australasia.
His prior involvement within FMCG is a good fit for MLC Group, the industry is fast-paced, competitive and has little room for error.
Alastair is involved in every aspect of generating sales for MLC, managing the wholesale and retail business units, leading marketing and working in with production. “I enjoy the interaction of the diverse team at MLC. My job is to continue to work hard culminating the vast array of collective abilities and experience into a cohesive unit. The aim is to introduce a corporate outlook to an established family business and to grow the talent base. “The company’s value of Continuous Improvement is aligned with my values”.
His leadership vision is to create a winning team culture, to grow talent and ensure the team feel valued. “It’s what makes us customer focused and as we say here ‘take pride in making hard, easy’”.
Al likes the growth aspirations of MLC Group; the company has created a niche in the market by optimising yields on a wide range of timber grades, then adding value to product and customer relationships respectively. “A big part our success is our ability to customise our product to solve complex customer problems”.
Outside of MLC, Al is married to Emma, and both enjoy working on renovating their home in Richmond. He is also a keen mountain biker and makes more time for it now that he’s not commuting between Australia and New Zealand. Al has two boys at Otago University both studying Marketing. He loves the lifestyle of living and working in the Tasman region.
